The Picture: How Tim Noble & Sue Webster Turn Trash Into Treasure

Dirty White Trash (with Gulls), 1998

You can take anything and create art out of it, even trash I suppose.  That’s what Tim Noble and Sue Webster, two British born and based artist have done for over fourteen years and have received international acclaim and recognition for.  They take garbage, or rubbish as they would say in England, and make assemblages with the material and then shine a light or use projection techniques to show human images or likeness to things identifiable to the naked eye.  Their projection techniques are astounding, and just looking at some of the creation these two have come up with is just amazing.  It has been said that their art transformation from waste to recognizable images is considered a form of “perceptual psychology”, a form of evaluation used by psychologists on their patients.  They have received numerous honors including Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Art at Nottingham Trent University in 2009,  the ARKEN Prize at Arken, Museum of Modern Art, Copenhagen for outstanding contribution to the international scene of contemporary art in 2007, and nominated for the South Bank Prize in that same here.  Their work has been featured in many collections all over the world, as well as been placed in many prestigious galleries such as the Artis-François Pinault, France; Dakis Joannou Collection, Athens; Es Baluard Muesum, Palma, Spain; The Goss-Michael Collection, Dallas; Honart Museum, Tehran, Iran; Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; National Portrait Gallery, London; The Olbricht Collection, Berlin; and countless more exhibits and art galleries.  This is truly art with soul, taking what people throw away and turning into art that create images that we all would love to remember and keep.  These two artists display something beyond what our eyes could imagine, so I had to bring light to such artistry… here are a few more of their creations below…
